landscape design and installation
Let us add to your design ideas or we can come up with a whole new plan. We often sketch first as we feel it is quicker and honestly gives a nice hand crafted feel. CAD style designs are also available.
quote for service and design/ quick quote
We can provide a quick quote, just send some photos and or set some time aside and come up with designs, big or small. The key often is to get some solid answers to get things rolling and not get too bogged down with all the millions of options available on the internet. hopefully we can help get you on the right track and eliminate some of the noise.
unique popular elements provided by us custom built
This is a kind of all round cache of photos and ideas to help get you started. We also have portfolio photo books (yes an actual hardcopy!) we can drop off. We feel that curling up on the couch or relaxing out back with this 'old fashioned' medium makes for a much more relaxing and informed decision making process by bringing you back into the analog world.
meet the team members

I have over 20 years of experience since starting out as a landscape laborer. Fact is, I love working outside and creating something which enhances not only your Outside is the name of the game, when not landscaping it's ice fishing and disc golf.
Ryan -Lead landscape construction installer and estimator and overall great guy

I started my company after initially using the sod business as a way to help pay my way through college. Thing is after college, I just wanted to keep going. I've been doing sod ever since, and used that base to branch out into landscaping, and in particular unique forms of landscape expression. I really enjoy design challenges that we often get on small city lots.- plenty of room for getting things done. Recently we have been working more and more with steel, and I really like that. Fact is, I love working outside, and really enjoy the full four seasons we get here in the upper midwest.
John/ president - designer - lead landscape foreman.

I enjoy the creative outlet that landscape offers me. precision trimming in of patios and stone walls, in particular bring me a lot of satisfaction. When not landscaping for work, I often head home to create something cool for my place.. or more likely hit the disc golf links with Ryan.

Mark got the back done last year, and now it's Barb's turn, no more ugly and wasteful grass, weed front, time to bring in some color and natural aspects.

When we first walked Todd and Mary's yard the message was loud and clear5: "I want more back yard, and yeah- some herb and vegetable gardens too!"
Mary her husband and chef, Todd, had their dream home, but... the back yard wall was totally sloping as the wall wasn't tall enough to begin with. Kassandra Shimotsu Renovations brought us in to build the great wall of Grass Lake! Now they have more space, the wall is sturdy, engineered to last and as a final touch steel planters for the chef's herbs and fresh tomatoes. Then, bring in the fence guru Barrkart for the final back yard touch!
My Projects
Embracing design challenges and in dreaming let's shoot for keeping it in budget

Design/project objective:
Old tar drive needed replacing
along with an old wall that was falling apart and took space away from our drive width.
solution:
After Neil Theisen Renovations did some interior work and they recommended us to help get the outside done as well.
The drive was in disrepair, and considering the look of pavers over concrete and longterm desirability of pavers and the steel edge made for a handsome and lovely addition with oodles of curb appeal.

Design objectives Front/
Let's create a modern feel for our newly
built home- sleek and inviting without being too sterile
solution: use newer modern styles of retaining wall block and add corten steel planters with natives to soften the look

Design objective: Make a very special backyard space-
Sometimes some designs are just nice to look at .. like this one.
Solution: Great collaboration with the customer, see below for more details. Oak pergola, step boulders oak boards cut into and around the steppers and nice fireplace. Wish I had this at my house!! Landscape envy for sure!!
Before/ After /
front yard by house was not a usable space. Design a space that fits the house and neighborhood with patio
Solution: Working closely with the customer and exchanging ideas we came up with one of our favorite designs. hard to tell from after photos that these front pillar patio and knee walls were built in 2014 not early 20th century like the house! Great collaboration with customers! At bottom with stair and railing is before photo.

STEEL
Steel is great when space is tight, and honestly I like it period!
There is another section dedicated to a few specific items that we make which are unique, but still very useful. I feel that if we use more qualitiy items like these custom made right here, using nice thick robust material that in the end we use less , have more enjoyment and a longer lasting aesthetic much like brick walkways instead of concrete-- enjoy. If you see something you like cut and paste and send a message, and I'll get you some current pricing.
As a guideline, I have some approx. pricing below
CANTILEVER PERGOLA: $8-10K
PLANTER BOXES- $1000-$1500
STEEL WALLS - $60 FT2
STEEL FENCE WITH CEDAR-$75.00 FT
STEEL CURBING/EDGING- $20.00 LIN FT.

Before/ After back yard /the back yard needs a refresher/keep room for dogs and kids but we need an adult space
solution: make a sketch and send some photos for material choice- in the sketch
create a nice patio close to house, beyond that let it go wild, a least there will be a transition and nice place to have guests over outside

Before /After redesign so back fits house and needs of customer
Rachel wanted as space that brings together many warm and natural elements to create a fabulous composition. Materials: oak natural outcroppings reclaimed pavers.

Before /After redesign so back fits house and needs of customer - combine old elements and new-
Note the progression of color on the corten steel planters, as they go from brown to more orangish. I do prefer the use of sketches for speed clarity and just overall more analog feel, but the addition of CAD style rendering can complete the design process. The swirl pattern in the pavers was he customer's idea, a bit of a head scratcher for us landscapers, but we got it! Note also the sense of space and yet containments that the cantilever pergola offers, 12 overhang, don't see that every day!

Before /After redesign so back fits house and needs of customer
Remove old and bring in more modern elements, large pavers, corten steel and a special cantilever pergola, that makes the area seem much more elegant and free. Also as nice touch we added floating stairs and a nice custom make natural gas hearth

Before/After Front wall of classic home needs to be repaired
Ryan took this one on with the determination commitment of a true artist craftsman. Using reclaimed stone a new wall was built that seems to have been pulled directly from the original period in which house was built.

Before After/ dilapidated wall needs replacing and let's get some more yard space while we are at it
.. design, engineer and get permits for new retaining wall. Use Versa-Lok Bronco block or similar.
Yes of course the wall was the big part of this project, but the details matter, like stairs down the side.. how will a fence integrate? and what about those tiers.. can we do something with them.. How about the city engineering and permits. Working with Kassy Shimotsu Renovations and the customer along with Barrkart fencing all the ideas and wish-lists were able to be realized. This is an impressive looking finish, also because of the fence and planters ,it feels less imposing and more functional. Note the rust look of planters after one year! And the garden greens make for good use of the tiers!! great team work!

IBES Landscaping inc.
and Me
I started landscaping to get through college as stated above, but really I like being outside and trying to build new and unique things that are meant to last. Also, we just like getting things done. We understand many projects may be just somethings that needs to be done. Of course those jobs are not very photogenic- so basically it never shows up on websites, but often does comprise a lot of what we do. This photo of my "Normandy' small urban farm right in the middle of Minneapolis sums us up best: Small scale operation with lots of character and desire to create and be a part of our great Minneapolis metro area culture and landscape
